APIs and You: Take your organization to the next level
Twitter, Ebay, Google Maps, Expedia, IBM – What do each of these companies have in common? These aren’t just some of the world’s most recognizable brands; each also integrates APIs into its business development strategy. In fact, some assert that the use of APIs is responsible for their remarkable growth and success.
Here at Pracedo, we couldn’t agree more. We loved the article “The Strategic Value of APIs” from the Harvard Business Review by Bala Iyer and Mohan Subramaniam. If there’s one thing you should take away from this article it’s that APIs aren’t just for your IT department; they can boost revenue, reach new markets, engage with customers, and streamline internal processes.
One of the things we love about Salesforce.com is the AppExchange, a wealth of apps created by SFDC partners to use on the platform. Here are our favorite APIs both on and off the AppExchange:
App: Field Trip
What it does: Runs reports on standard and custom field usage.
Why we like it: “Field Trip is a fantastic tool for any Admin who wants to ensure their org is well maintained. By scanning your org it returns the number of records where each field is populated and the overall percentage. Great to use a few months after an implementation or new roll out to see if all those fields that were requested are actually being used!” – Matt
App: Dupe Catcher
What it does: Enables Salesforce users to identify, block and dedupe leads, accounts, and contacts in real-time at the point-of-entry.
Why we like it: “It’s easy to configure and solves a real business issue.” – Ben
App: Zapier
What it does: Automatically integrates Salesforce to other online applications
Why we like it: “It connects Salesforce to a large number of other online platforms, like Facebook, Twitter, Mailchimp, Evernote, LinkedIn. And it’s really easy to use and configure.” – Ciaran
App: Twilio
What it does: Enabling phones, VoIP, and messaging to be embedded into web, desktop, and mobile software.
Why we like it: “Twilio allows anyone to programmatically call, send SMS, MMS, and much more in a streamlined way.” – JP
